Public Liability Insurance

Although Public Liability Insurance isn’t a legal requirement; in any profession, it is an indispensable type of business insurance, particularly if you have visitors to your premises or carry out work on client sites.

Public Liability Insurance would cover the cost of claims made against you for bodily injury or damage to a third party’s property. Imagine the costs involved should a third party be severely injured following a visit to your premises. These costs could be thousands of pounds and they would of course be devastating for most businesses therefore, having Public Liability would protect your business and ensure it remains open should an accident occur.

Public Liability Insurance can be purchased as a standalone product however, depending on your insurance requirements, it can also be incorporated into a Business Insurance policy, such as a Commercial Combined Policy, Office or Shop Policy, which would include other insurance products such as Employers’ Liability, Material Damage etc.

As an Independent Insurance Broker, we have a wide range of UK insurers who can provide Public Liability Cover with an Indemnity Limit ranging from £2,000,000 to £10,000,000 (and if necessary, higher!). Having obtained the information required, our highly trained and professional brokers will search the markets available to obtain the most comprehensive quotation that suits you and your business.

What is Public Liability Insurance?

Public Liability Insurance covers your business in situations where a customer or member of the public has suffered property damage or personal injury because of your business. This could be whilst they are on your premises or whilst you are on theirs. The policy would cover the damage/compensation costs and legal fees to a third party (a third party would include members of the public, customers or clients but not your staff as this would be Employers Liability Insurance).

Do I need Public Liability Insurance?

Public Liability Insurance is not a requirement by law however many clients insist that you’re covered before allowing you to work, especially if you work with the local government or councils.

You may not think your business needs Public Liability but even the most day-to day tasks hold a liability risk.
