We pride ourselves on the quality of our staff. Every one of our technical people hold a recognised insurance diploma and a brief resume of our technical staff can be found at 'Meet The Team'. We ensure that their knowledge is kept up to date and relevant by using insurer 'workshops', electronic learning modules and in-house training sessions. The firm has been granted Chartered Status by the Chartered Insurance Institute in recognition of its Technical and Ethical standing. We were one of the first firms to achieve this accolade and we are still one of the very small number to have done so.

• Market Presence
Of course this is essential and steps were taken in 2001 to ensure that Smith Robinson Ltd had a sufficientely strong presence with a large panel of underwriters and Lloyd's syndicates. Firstly we joined, by invitation and rigorous scrutiny, the Willis Commercial Network. This gave us the collective might of over 50 broking firms placing several 100 million pounds of premium into the market. In addition we set out on the acqusition trail and increased our own mass. In 2006 we left the Willis network as we wished to use more up to date technology and at that time Willis were inflexible as to the systems that members could use. We moved to The Broker Network which has a membership of 175 and places £500M of premium in the market. (It is significant that in early 2009 Willis changed their technology provider to the one we selected in 2006!). A further advantage of being a network member is that we have access to specialist knowledge areas such as Aviation and Credit insurances which enhances our own in-house knowledge and skills.

• Financial Strength
Before even compulsory regulation of general insurance came about, Smith Robinson Ltd subscribed to voluntary regulation by the now defunct Insurance Brokers' Registration Council. We did this to illustrate to our clients that we embraced the most stringent scrutiny of our firm, including its financial resources. The Financial Conduct Authority has now taken over this function.
